The Sound Of Life

To Aviv - Secret Santa Jam 2021

A short point and click adventure game about a girl who wishes to see her father one last time.

This was made for the Secret Santa Jam 2021 and went horribly over time but happy with how it turned out!

How to play:

  • Left click to move around the scene
  • Right click to interact/observe objects in the scene
  • (Just a side note sometimes if you interact with a object the game will stop receiving inputs for about 10 seconds but then be normal, this is just workaround for a problem that popped up and not the most elegant solution but it works!)

Features:

  • Point and click adventure gameplay with multiple puzzles
  • Multiple cutscenes to help tell the tale
  • Watercolour art style

Really liked the games mood and personality. I feel the main character is relatable and the story is impactful.

I very rarely play point and click adventure games however and found navigation a little tricky to get my head around. A more obvious navigation system would of helped me stay engaged as the character.

For a jam entry it's solid and I can easily seeing it being developed further.

I.. I... I Have no words, This beautiful masterpiece has exceeded my expectations in every matter that could be.

in terms of the visuals, I refer to the gorgeous art style that is 3D but feels like a water-color painting! the amazing warm lighting, how the character feels like a part of the world and the fact that EVERY room feels screenshot-worthy!

I have to say that the storytelling in this game took a simple idea and executed it beautifully, I love how the character can state her opinion about simple objects, I love the camera angles that change between rooms, and when you walk through the forest,  oh, and can we appreciate the fact that this game has like 3-4 FULLY ANIMATED CUTSCENES!?!?!

Also, The music fits perfectly! you can easily see that there was a lot of thought put into the music, considering that it is tied to the main idea of the game, I really loved how in the final cutscene, as the character plays the simple melody that the "left hand" fills itself hinting that she isn't actually alone there, Great job on that!

the puzzles were pretty cute, I like how you tied it to the story and hid clues in plain sight! I didn't quite understand whether the fireplace one had a clue on how to rotate the parts, but I managed to pass it anyways so It didn't block my progress (Edit: On a second playthrough I found what it was, Just aligning the rods based on their material, neat!).

the only part of the game that could be slightly improved was the actual gameplay, like you said, sometimes moving around and interacting was a bit stuck or glitchy, but those are really nitpicks compared to the overall experience of the game!

I feel super lucky that I got to receive a personalized game from such a talented group! Thank you so much for taking your time on this project, It was 100% worth the wait!!

il wish you all good luck with your future projects! And a happy new year!

Awee thank you for the lovely praise it really means a lot :)  Very happy your happy with the game ^.^

With the visuals we achieved this through a filter, we thought it would help keep the style more consistent since we pulled some items from free unreal marketplace packs and wanted a old Christmas movie feel like with "The Snowman" (1982). We had a few more rooms planned but time constraints axed them but I think that helped me place more emphasis on the layouts! (The talk function tied into some of the scrapped content actually haha but still found a few uses for it).

Once again thank you xD I have lots of fun making cutscenes so always try to include them and love scenes that tell their own story when you look at them!

The music was by a friend called Edmund, he did a wonderful job :)  He works with myself and Anish on a few other projects including a horror game we did on here (Halloween Night 1999). I asked him for the "Father's Song" to do a single repeatable pattern thing in the most confusing way possible (I'm not music literate haha!) but he did a really beautiful job.

With the puzzles I expected the combination puzzle to be a bit harder actually but I did mean to colour the turn pieces puzzle a bit more dramatically but... forgot... >.<

Ah yep the gameplay xD Doing a point and click in unreal was a "fun" experience to say the least haha!

And thank you it was a pleasure to be your Secret Santa for 2021 and again sorry about the lateness but glad it was worth the wait for you!  :)

Thank you and a happy new year to you too! :)
